I went to the Longshoremen union rally. To observe. Our fighting unions "...to the gates of hell" guv did a superb job of surrounding himself with a large contingent of armed law enforcers who witnessed no violence or bad behavior. Those awful workers wanted good wages, bennies, respect. How anti-Republican they were. Shame on them.
Thinking back on my history classes, I was not taught why certain folks were exempt from the new minimum wage in 1938. Well, Roosevelt was given an ultimatum by Southern senators: exempt wait staff, home aides, farm workers and valets. He did. They approved his bill. Who were these exempt workers? Why, black and brown folk, mostly. Funny that.
