This is a pretty big deal, as endorsements go: House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn endorsed Steve Benjamin for mayor today.

According to a press release from Benjamin's campaign, Clyburn said "Steve Benjamin is not a business as usual politician and he will not be a business as usual mayor."

The endorsement has roots; the two men know each other from when Benjamin ran for state attorney general several years ago, and when he headed up the Richland County Democratic Party.

A number of Benjamin's early campaign donors were current and past Clyburn staffers. Clyburn has showed up at at least one campaign event for Benjamin here in Columbia. And Benjamin's campaign held a fundraiser last fall in Washington. D.C.

Clyburn has recorded a radio ad for Benjamin.

wow....i am not sure that's the best endorsement you can get. Maybe some one will start to look in to cylburn next. At least get him for building the four million dollar eye sore over 277...which still to this day i have passed under that bridge a few thousands times, and still have never seen any one on it. What a waste of tax payers money.

Do You Support a Sales Tax Increase to Fund the Bus System?

The bus system in the Midlands has long been without a steady source of funding. In November, Richland County residents will vote on a referendum that would raise the sales tax by 1 percent to fund the bus system and other transportation projects. Do you support the sales tax increase?

I'm a bot, don't pay attention to my vote
Yes, this is the best way to fund the bus system.
No, I don't support this tax increase.
 Fund the buses another way.
