Best Local Blog

Not Shop Tart

BY DAN COOK

Dear readers: If you believe that the purpose of reading blogs is to understand the lives of wealthy shopaholics with more time on their hands than you can possibly imagine, then you have rightly voted The Shop Tart as Best Local Blog. If, however, you find more value in breaking local news and off-the-rails commentary, then you might have considered such choices as FITS News, The Palmetto Scoop, SC Hotline or Indigo Journal. Jeffrey Day's Carolina Culture blog wouldn't have been a bad choice, either.

Hey-- It's got a definite voice; it's the only one of its kind locally; the best one of its kind I've found anywhere, and I've looked; and she makes it pay. Pretty decent cred even if it is just girly Sh&t...

The Shop Tart promotes local businesses, restaurants and retail. She markets local events and supports local non-profits. In today’s big box, mega chain world, I find that relevant and commendable.

Dan, We appreciate the mention and must also share with you that juxtaposed to a year ago Ms. Vee is just as likely to show up @home with a Free-Times any day of the week as she is The State… Keep up the good work!

Poor Dan -- it must really hurt that people just don't understand how important "real" journalism is. They're pretty stupid, aren't they? Clinging to their guns and religion -- not interested in every little antic of the local politicos and corrupt goings on. I don't read the Shop Tart because I'll actually be getting a mani-pedi and trying on some darling size-6 Manolo Blahniks over a long lunch. I'm a 50-ish guy who enjoys good writing and likes her style and wit. Yeah, I read FITS and the Scoop, but the Tart is my choice as well. Much more entertaining, much better quality of writing, much better "voice" and focus on her readers. Maybe you should meet her for lunch and get a spa treatment.
