Hansel and Gretel is 201 years old — but hey, witches, cannibalism and bad parenting never go out of style. The USC Dance Conservatory presents Hansel and Gretel at 6 p.m. Friday. The performance is at USC’s Drayton Hall; tickets are $12 for students, $16 for USC faculty, staff, military and seniors; and $18 for the general public. An additional performance will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.

Girls Rock is, when boiled down to its essence, about volume. But not just about the loudness of electric guitars and drum kits, or even the creative process of writing a song — it’s about volume on a much more profound level. As Kristin Morris, one of the two co-founders of the Columbia branch of the rock camp (along with Shannon Donohue), says, “the heart of Girls Rock is using music education and music performance as a vehicle for social change.”
